Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do Murphy Beds attach to the floor or to the wall?+
For the Vertical Orientation, the Murphy Bed is attached to the wall up at the top of the cabinet using three L-Brackets into structural member (ie. studs). For the Horizontal Orientation, the Murphy Bed is attached through the back apron using 6 screws into structural members (ie. studs).
-
What is the difference between a Horizontal and Vertical Murphy Bed?+
Side Tilt and Vertical refers to the orientation of the bed when opening. A Side Tilt Murphy Bed is in the horizontal orientation and the Vertical Murphy Bed is in the vertical orientation.
-
Are Murphy Beds easy to raise and lower?+
Yes they are! Our spring-loaded mechanisms ensure effortless opening and closing. Our mechanisms are counter balanced to prevent your bed from unexpectedly falling. You can raise or lower your Murphy Bed with just one finger.
-
What kind of mattress can I use on a Murphy Bed?+
We recommend using an inner coil or spring mattress up to 10" thick with the Regular Height Legs or up to 12" thick with the Extended Legs. The mattress can have layers of comfort foam on top, but the core must be spring. The mattress should weigh no more then 75 lbs.
We do not recommend using an all foam, latex, gel or tempurpedic mattress due to the weight of the mattress and the internal structure is not designed to stay upright. -
Do you offer installation services?+
We do not offer any installation services, you would be responsible for the assembly of the Murphy Bed. Installation requires two people and can take approx. 5-8 hours to complete. We do have installation videos on our Support page.
-
What material is used in the Build-a-Bed?+
The material used depends on the finish. The Solid Laminates, Wood Grain Laminates, and Textured Laminates are all an industrial grade melamine, which is a particle board core with a melamine top. The Wood Veneer is a plywood core with a wood veneer top. The construction of material is ¾" thick.
-
What weight do the mechanisms support?+
When the bed is in the upright position the mechanisms can withstand a maximum of 220 lb, which includes the combined weight of the front panels, bed frame, stiffeners, crossbar, legs and mattress.
